The adult literacy program will boost my constituency because it will help them to read and write whenever necessary.
Thyolo-Goliati MP Hon. Maureen Namwali has praised the launch of Adult Literacy Program by Effie Namwali Foundation under her constituency at Traditional Authority Chimaliro in Thyolo, saying it will help reach more elderly individuals who lack reading and writing skills.
"I will provide a blackboard to be used for teaching and I will continue supporting the elderly. I was stressed the day the community received their money after maintaining the rural road; many couldn't sign on the form due to inability to write and read. Now that access has been granted, I am calling all to attend the class in large numbers," Namwali said.
Program Manager Henry Chipiku outlined that the foundation will provide exercise books and pens to support the 47 registered students. He urged the community to encourage more elderly individuals to attend the lessons.
Traditional Authority Chimaliro promised to spread the message and encourage men to join the program, starting Wednesday, February 18, 2026. The T/A stressed that there was zero registration of men, targeting them as his next outreach to encourage attendance.
