MP Maureen Namwali Appeals for Continued Support in Hunger Crisis
Thyolo Goliati MP Maureen Namwali has urged stakeholders to continue supporting hunger crisis efforts in her constituency, following Thyolo District being listed as one of the districts on hunger strike.
Hon. Maureen Namwali made the call at Milonga Technical College where Good People International distributed food and non-food items to 1,000 households. "We're grateful for the support, and it's in line with President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika's directive that no one should die from hunger in this country. That's why partnership is needed to rescue these people," Hon Namwali said.
Namwali further advised beneficiaries to use the donation accordingly and avoid selling it, as it has been provided freely to ease hunger in communities, including aged people and people with disabilities.
Good People International Country Director Nayoon Lee said food insecurity pushed them to support, providing essentials like blankets, buckets, and other items totalling 100 million kwacha. Lee added that they've supported education and SHRS projects for at least 14 years with support from Korean citizens.
Group Village Head Samu under Traditional Authority Ngolongoliwa thanked the government, MP, and Good People International for the support, urging the community to utilise the aid. Ernest James from Lupiya Village, Traditional Authority Ngolongoliwa, thanked the MP for proposing the aid to Good People International.
Maize flour, cooking oil, blankets, and buckets were among items received by beneficiaries at Milonga Technical College on Monday, 19 January 2026.
